Daniel Steward Brockway married Elsia Mead on September 16, 1873. He worked in the woods and on the river. he lived on a farm west of the village from 1895 untill his death in 1930. There were 7 children: George; Norman; Grace; Maud (Mrs. Rubin Dewar); alice (Mrs. Charles Mueller); Jane (Mrs. Hugh Hudson); and Ruth (Mrs. Oscar Gutafson) of Becker. Son, George Brockway, was born at Champlin on August 26, 1874. he married Iva Normandin of Osseo, who was born on October 26, 1884. While working in a foundry, at the age of 21, he lost a leg as a result of a piece of scrp iron being released from an electric magnet which struck his limb. He spent his remaining years on the farm afte the accident. George and Iva had a daughter, Edith (Mrs. Clifford Carlson). She received her teaching credentials from St. cloud State College and started teaching at Garfield (Champlin School) in 1924. In 1928, Miss Florence Volbrecht replaced Mrs. Carlson as teacher of her first and second grade class. After a leave of absence, Edith resumed teaching at Champlin in 1935, and retired in 1967. - [S26] Burial Record.
